I’m starting a new feature for The Roaming Parkers blog – Top Ten Tuesdays. I figure to post simple top-10 lists related to travel, adventure, conservation, and food. I might add a sentence or two of commentary or I might not.
Feel free to jump in with a comment like, “Hey! me too!” or maybe even, “You’re an idiot!”
10 naturalists that inspired me as a child
When I sat down to start writing this list I realized that there were only 3-4 naturalists from my childhood whose names I even know. I filled out the list with naturalists from before my time that I figure must have certainly influenced my childhood heroes and who have more recently inspired me.
- Jacques Cousteau
- Marlin Perkins
- Robert Baden-Powell
- Ernest Thompson Seton
- Daniel Carter Beard
- Carl Sagan
- Henry David Thoreau
- Edward Abbey
- John Muir
- Teddy Roosevelt
- John Wesley Powell
- Rachel Carson
If you are sharp of eye and compulsive, you will have noticed that my top 10 list contains 12 names. I figure a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds. If a 12-item top-10 bugs you that much, cross out any two names you like.
