This photo totally deserves a blog post of its own! This is the view from the observation deck of the Astoria Column.
No, not that photo, though the Column itself is impressive and it sets off my rustic good looks nicely – I was actually talking about this photo of the Columbia River stretching out eastward through a bucolic landscape toward snow-capped mountains.
They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, but I think this view is probably worth about a thousand pictures! There are a lot of stories in that picture.
Still round that bend there may wait,
A new road or a secret gate,
And though I oft have passed them by,
a day will come at last when I,
Shall take the hidden paths that run,
West of the Moon, East of the Sun.
