Kilimanjaro makes me gassy!

So, here’s something that you might not have read in all your pre-Kilimanjaro research – exposure to high altitude can make you feel extremely bloated and gassy.  Here’s how it works.

_EDP1779Any gas that you get in your gut (like, for instance, eating unfamiliar foods) expands uncomfortably when the atmospheric pressure outside your body decreases.  Seems obvious, but something that you never think of beforehand.

If I had thought of it beforehand I might have made good use of a bottle of simethicone (Gas-X).  But you never know until you go.
